Please visit our author hub for more information about the benefits of submitting to a Topic Collection. After 20 years of Robotic Surgery with a unique and single market leader, there are now multiple competitors in the market. Some of these machines are becoming more autonomous and driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the next few years costs are going to come down which will see greater acceptance of robotic technology in emerging economies. The evaluation of these new systems need to be robust and the reporting of outcomes transparent. Only then will the public trust these devices. Over the next decade, governments internationally will invest heavily in responsible AI and the skills required to educate the next generation of surgeons and teams in robotic technology. This topic collection is therefore exciting and timely. Submissions on the impact of the following are particularly welcome:
  • IDEAL evaluation of new robotic systems
  • Telerobotic surgery
  • Surgical Data Science
  • The future of training in robotic surgery
  • Trustworthy Autonomous Systems in healthcare
  • Frameworks for Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in the application of Artificial Intelligence in robotic surgery
